My Return From The Void
So here I am, some 16+ months after my last dev log post, and I am ready to return to the active game dev space. So where have I been? Well, the short answer is: busy. I received a big promotion at work and, while it came with a sizeable increase in pay, it also came with an equal increase in responsibility (which also means requiring much more of my time). I am no longer just a mere telecommunications technician, but a site manager responsible for a team of technicians across a wide regional area encompassing several military bases. To say it’s a lot of responsibility is an understatement. But, having been at it for more than a year now, I am finally comfortable in my role and feel I can now take the time to turn to what has always been on my mind since I had to stop: game dev.
While I haven’t stopped thinking about it, studying it, or even planning more projects, I just haven’t had the time to actively perform it. Panic Room is still very much alive and I have a ton of new notes and plans for it. So much so, in fact, that I plan to start from scratch and redesign it from the ground up. This will allow me to begin with a fresh codebase and implement some new features and ideas.
I will also be engaged in learning new things about Unity and will likely begin my return with new courses and tutorials as I get back into the solo dev mindset and exercise my fingers and brain again. I am excited to start Illogical Bacon back up and can’t wait to see what I can produce. I will continue to chronicle the journey here and post all my study materials and insights not only as a record of my own journey but also for anyone else to glean knowledge from on a similar path.
It’s good to be back!
